The Holy Family’s Journey in Egypt – A Glimpse

Description

The arrival of Jesus Christ and the Holy Family is an important Event that took place in Egypt. They started their journey through Northern Sinai and had to change locations very frequently so as to avoid the reach of Herod’s spies. In total, there are 26 locations throughout the country where it is believed that the Holy Family passed through, or sought refuge in, during their three and a half years in hiding. Most of these locations have now been transformed to Churches and Monasteries. The Coptic Orthodox Church celebrates this event every year on June 1 st .    The Copts are defined as the modern sons of the Pharaohs, and they are proud of the apostolicity of their church, whose founder is St. Mark, one of the seventy Apostles (Mark 10:10), and one of the four Evangelists. He is regarded by the Coptic hierarchy as the first of their unbroken 118 Patriarchs, and also the first of a stream of Egyptian martyrs.

The Itinerary
13  When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him. ” 14  So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt,  15  where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.” (Matthew 2:13-15).

Day 1 – Arrive at Cairo international airport, your Tour Manager will meet and assist you, then will escort you to your hotel in an air-conditioned Minibus. At the hotel, he'll assist you with a smooth check-in and review your day by day itinerary, to confirm pick-up times for each tour.
Overnight in Cairo.

Day 2 – You will have your breakfast at your hotel, then, your personal Egyptologist will accompany you to The Egyptian Museum, to see the amazing collections of Queens and Kings from the Pharaohs era. After the visit you will enjoy the tasty Egyptian cuisine, in a local restaurant. After lunch, proceed to Giza to visit one of The Seven Wonders of the AncientWorld, the Great Pyramids of Cheops, Chefren, Mykerinos, famous Sphinx and Valley temple.  After  the visit, possible optional excursions to the Sound and Light Show at the Pyramids Plateau. At the end of the day, transfer to your hotel, where you will enjoy a freshly prepared dinner. Overnight in Cairo.

Day 3 – Breakfast at your hotel, then meet with your guide, to start your day tour by the visit of the Coptic Cairo; we’ll discover the oldest part of the city, originally a Roman fortress town called ‘’Babylon”. We'll start by visiting the Hanging Church (El Muallaqa), one of the oldest churches in Egypt and its history dates to the 3rd century. Proceed to visit Saint Sergio's and Bacchus Church, also known as Abu Serga. Visit the Church of St. Barbara, one of the oldest Churches in Cairo, then proceed to visit the Church of St. George, a Greek Orthodox Church, dates back to the 10th century. Lunch in a local restaurant, then transfer to the quarter of Maadi to visit the Church of St. Mary, the place where the Holy Family embarked on a sailing boat heading southwards. On March 12 – 1976, a Bible was found floating on the Nile, in front of the Church, miraculously undamaged, and it was opened at chapter 19 of Isaiah "Blessed be Egypt my people".
At the end of the day, transfer back to your hotel for dinner, and overnight.

Day 4 – Breakfast at your hotel, meet with your guide, then transfer to downtown to visit the church of The Virgin Mary "Haret Zuweila", one of the Holy Family Path's stations. Lunch in a local restaurant, then proceed to the Zeitoun area to visit St. Mary Church, where Virgin Mary appeared in a luminous form within the Church for many days, in April 1968. At the end of the day, transfer back to your hotel for dinner, and overnight.

Day 5 – Breakfast at your hotel, rooms check-out, then transfer to Cairo Airport to fly back
home, or to your next destination in Egypt.
